The Turgen

The Turgen have a saying: "ma tinyei ibin korko", which means a woman has no age set. Their women can marry from any age set except their fathers'.

They are subdivided into two subgroups; the Highland Tugens, also known as South Tugen or Sammor and the North Tugen, also known as Arror.

Unlike some of the other Kalenjin sub-tribes, they don't have the Maina age set.

Fun Fact πŸš€

The Gambia has sacred crocodile pools used as sites for fertility rituals. The crocodiles are well fed, and therefore, do not pose any danger to the visitors who visit the sites daily. There are three sacred pools in the country; Kachikally crocodile pool, Folonko in Kombo South and Berending on the north banks.

PROVERB OF THE WEEK

Mabarei kuinet ab teta moitanyi (Nandi)

Translation: A cow's horn does not kill its calf.

Meaning: This proverb emphasizes the bond between a mother and her child and the nurturance thereof. This proverb was used when people complained about a harsh punishment meted out by a mother/parent to a child that such punishment could only be corrective and not punitive, therefore necessary.

WORD OF THE WEEK

Njichanga (Bukusu)

Meaning: Travel.

Example: Njichanga na epasi.

Translation: I usually travel by bus.
