Masaba also known as Lugisu or Masaaba or Abasonga is a language spoken in Eastern Uganda.
Masaba language has approximately 3,000,000 native speakers.
A person who speaks Masaba is known as mgisu.
The language has 6 dialects; Gisu, Kisu, Syan, Tachoni, Dadiri and Buya.
Masaba is the local name of Mount Elgon and the name of the son of the ancestor of the Gisu tribe.
The Lugisu dialect is mutually intelligible with the Bukusu language, one of the Luhya languages spoken in Kenya.
