2013 - Bubonic Plague Kills at least 20 People in a small Madagascan village.

2016 - A suicide bomber kills 25 and wounds 45 people at a chapel in Cairo, Egypt.

1961 - Macky Sall, the eighth prime minister and fourth President of Senegal, is born.

1974 – Gete Wami, an Ethiopian runner, is born.

2001 - Mainza Chona, the first Prime Minister of Zambia, dies.

2003 - Ahmadou Kourouma, an Ivorian author and playwright, dies.
