The Bold Abiola

In 1994, Moshood Abiola made a bold move by declaring himself the President of Nigeria. His declaration comes amidst political turmoil and a disputed presidential election. 
Abiola, who had won the popular vote in the 1993 election but was never officially declared the winner, takes matters into his own hands, asserting his rightful claim to the presidency. 
His actions challenged the existing power structure and ignited a wave of protests and support from the Nigerian people, who saw him as a symbol of hope and change.
However, Abiola's self-declaration was short-lived. The military government, led by General Sani Abacha, swiftly responded by arresting him and nullifying his declaration. 
This led to a period of political instability and increased tensions in Nigeria, as Abiola's imprisonment sparked widespread unrest and international condemnation. Despite his arrest and subsequent death in custody, Abiola's declaration remains a significant event in Nigeria's history.
