Mt. Nyiragongo Eruption

In May 2021, Mount Nyiragongo, one of Africa's most active volcanoes situated in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo, experienced a major eruption.

The eruption unleashed a torrent of red-hot lava with temperatures exceeding 1,000 degrees Celsius, consuming everything in its path, including homes, infrastructure, and vegetation.

The eruption posed significant risks to human lives, as toxic gases and volcanic ash filled the air, leading to respiratory issues and health concerns.

Tens of thousands of people were forced to flee their homes in order to escape the advancing lava and seek safety in neighbouring towns and refugee camps.

The aftermath of the eruption revealed the extent of the devastation, with entire neighbourhoods reduced to ashes and the local economy severely impacted.
