A two-day celebration aimed at preserving the endangered culture of the Abasuba people who mainly inhabit Rusinga Island and Mfangano Island on Lake Victoria. The festival was founded by Anne Eboso and is administered through Chula Cultural Foundation. The Suba language is listed by UNESCO as one of thirteen endangered languages in Kenya. The festival addresses various community issues including health, education, and cultural preservation while featuring traditional sports, music, and cuisine.

About Rusinga Cultural Festival

Celebrates the culture and traditions of the Abasuba people of Rusinga Island. Visitors experience live music, traditional dance, art, storytelling, sports competitions, and Abasuba cuisine, all in one place. The festival is also a gathering space for the community. It creates room for dialogue, educates young people about their heritage, empowers youth and women, and brings families together across the island. It started with a simple vision: keep Abasuba heritage alive. Today it has grown into an annual celebration of identity, unity, and creativity.
