Acholi Language

Acholi also known as Acoli is a language spoken in Magwi County in South sudan and Acholiland in Northern Uganda(Gulu, Amuru, Kitgum and Pader Districts) by the Acoli people.

It belongs to the Lwo group of languages which also includes Dholuo, Alur, Anuak, Päri, Shilluk and Thuri languages.

Acholi language has approximately 2,300,000 native speakers.

The language has 3 dialects; Labwor, Dhopaluo and Nyakwai.

Note: The sounds f, h, q, s, v, x and z do not occur in Acholi language.
